Type Locality and Naming
South Song Hong Basin. The type section is located borehoíe GK.1Ĩ2-BT drilled in the Hue Graben at a depth of 2437 to 3667m (N= 17°15’0”; E = I07°19’I2”). It was named by

Lithology and Thickness
Light grey, grey to brown-grey calcareous silty claystone, particles of lignite and sometimes foraminifera. Thin interbeds of light grey sandstone, or sometimes, of limestone are observed, especially in the upper part of the section (at a depth of 2437-2925 m) with the thickness reaching 25 m. The total thickness of the formation in this borehole readies 1230 m.

The Song Huong Fm is distributed widely in the Hue and Quang Ngai Grabens of the South Song Hong Basin.

Spores-pollen of Echiperiporites estelae, Crassoretitriletes nanhaiensis, Magnastriatites howardi, Pinuspollenites, Florschuetzia levipoli, FI. semilobata, FI. trilobata, Verrucatosporites usmensis, Barringtonia sp., Triletes, Rhizophora sp., Alnipollenites sp. belonging to the Echiperiporites - Florschuetzia levipoli Assemblage. Forams of Ammonia, Eponides, Operculina, Lepidocyclina, Amphistegina, Globigerina bulloides, Globigerinoides sacculifer, Gl. trilobus, Globorotalia obesa, GL obliquus, Globoquadrina altispira, Gl. dehiscens. Nannofossils of Discoaster druggii, Helicosphaera ampliaperta, Sphenolithus belemos, Helicosphaera sp., and Thoracosphaera sp.

It is interpreted as a coastal plain and continental shelf environment.
